is gone, man. wiped away by sandy. i don't have an address. i don't know what if anything else was said after that. i suppose, though, that if he wanted to, that man could have said, i don't have anything left except for this little bit of dignity i'm struggling to maintain. now, in six days, most of us are going to pull our chairs up to a familiar table, in a familiar place, with familiar people. and we're going to chow down. and we're going to say we're grateful, while in truth, many of us will take it all for granted. like that guy up in jersey might once have done. but now for him, and god knows how many thousands of others, there is likely to be nothing familiar on thanksgiving day. and nothing that they can or ever will again take for granted. now, there can be a bright story to a story like this, it is the perspective it provides. and perspective invites opportunity. for me, the story of that man up in jersey provides an opportunity to be even more prayerful and more generous. i will pray for him, and all the others who share his plight. and i will be more generous to the red cro
with a statement at the top saying sandy reduced industrial production output by nearly 1 percentage point so the bottom line is the industrial production would have been above expectations were it not for sandy. and a lot of people took a while for them to read that. i think that helped turn the markets around a little bit right now. elsewhere, the sectors hit hard by concerns of the fiscal cliff on the downside today. it's been an ugly week for industrial trust. down 6% since the election. the association met this week in san diego. had an annual meeting and my understanding is fairly downbeat. a little bit of concern. even though the fundamentals of real estate doing well. supply is muted. capital is cheap. in theory, not a bad time to be in the real estate business. utilities down more than 6%. they were hurt by sandy a little bit. the northeast ones. there's a one-month chart. finally today, a positive print on the overall utilities but a rocky road for them and same situation with telecom. they're the most affected by the fiscal cliff issues. telecom down about 5.5% since the election b
. the president visited a section of staten island still reeling from hurricane sandy. the storm hit more than two weeks ago. the cleanup is still a huge challenge here in new york city and long island and across new jersey tonight. one senior citizen's home is still in a really tough shape. he's got a foot of sand in the hallway. the port authority just released this security camera footage. you can see water pouring into the path train station in hoboken. hundreds of thousands of people rely on the path trains every day, service still isn't fully restored. the port authority relies on federal money to run those trains so people could get to work. cities across new jersey and new york also depend on federal dollars to recover from disasters like this. now those dollars are in jeopardy. mayors of some of the nation's largest cities met today with vice president joe biden about the financial threat. and they're not just worried about disaster relief. the u.s. conference of mayors says republican spending cuts would cost cities at least $110 billion just next year. the cuts would take a 36% out of e
